Our members are the heart of the JLC.

In September, the League introduced the Membership Initiatives Committee (MIC), created to support the JLC in addressing the need for enhanced membership experience and engagement.  In the two months that followed, MIC led virtual and in-person efforts designed to gather important feedback from members.  You have spoken, and leadership is listening!  Here is an update regarding the Membership Initiatives Committee’s survey and small group meetings.  Stay tuned for more opportunities to continue the dialogue on how #WeConnect!

335 active members completed the membership survey released in October.  Of the respondents,

  • 05% are working full time outside of the home
  • 54% are married
  • 03% have no children
  • 49% have served as a leader, are currently serving as a leader, or want to serve as a leader

While 90.76% of survey respondents believe the JLC makes a significant impact on the community, many respondents mentioned that we could do an even better job of sharing the stories of these efforts with both our membership and the community.

85.94% of respondents believe the JLC welcomes diversity in its membership.

While 67.20% of respondents feel connected to the JLC mission, 58.85% of respondents do not feel connected to the JLC membership. The top three suggestions proposed by survey respondents to increase opportunities for member connections were:

  • more events arranged by zip code to connect with other members in your area
  • small interest group offerings (i.e. book club, dinner club, etc.)
  • more social events

Over 200 members participated in 28 small group meetings that were held in the month of November and took advantage of the opportunity to discuss six important League areas: community, connectivity, diversity, social, legacy, and membership structure/pilot program. An incredible amount of positive feedback and creative ideas emerged from these meetings!

We now know about our JLC members:

  • you are proud to be a member of an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, to developing the potential of women and to improving the community
  • direction is expected from leadership but you are also willing to make an effort
  • flexibility within membership requirements is appreciated
  • effective communication is a key component to feeling connected
  • transparency is welcome
  • small group settings are the most favored mode of interaction for members

The MIC is working to categorize feedback into separate buckets of information: 1) those that can be shared with current leaders and acted on now, and 2) those that will be shared with the JLC Board and Management Team for use in setting future direction through the League’s Strategic Planning process.

Many thanks to all survey respondents and November meeting attendees for providing your valuable feedback!  Please reach out to a MIC or JLC Board member with other thoughts regarding your JLC experience.
