Willingness to Serve Workshop Recap: Step Up to Lead!

The Willingness to Serve workshop on Monday, January 29, was a hit for the Junior League of Charlotte (JLC) Nominating Committee. Committee members were on hand to help answer questions from the attendees about the Willingness to Serve process.

Attendees also heard briefly from President-Elect Ashley Lowery and Executive Vice President-Elect Becca Walters about their time in the Junior League of Charlotte. Both highly encourage all members to go in and nominate an individual or even put in a bid to nominate themselves for a new role for the upcoming League year.

A number of two-year positions are open for the 2024-25 League year. To help members know what’s available and to narrow down their choices, leadership roles, descriptions and time commitments can be found on the Nominating page. “If you are interested in a leadership position, go for it.” Becca Walters stated to the group.

If members want to know more about a certain committee, JLC CFO,Rosemary Gause gave this advice, “You can reach out to the committee to see what that committee is about.”

A question was asked: “If you are new to a role, how do you know what to do in that role?” The good news- the JLC is a training organization. Those in the role before you and council managers will help guide you along the way. Upcoming leaders are also invited to Lead Saturday every year where they can connect with other women, learn about their role and leadership in general in the JLC. The JLC’s Leadership Toolkit can also help with navigating all things JLC.

Another good question was posed to the Nominating Committee: “What would you like to tell a Provisional who will be a first-year Active to get them into a Willingness to Serve position?” “Do your research. Are you looking to do something closer to the job you currently do on a daily basis? Or would you like to push your limits and be fearless? Throw your name in the hat. You can’t break the League,” said nominating committee member, Jen Emerson, adding “Don’t be afraid to say yes.”

The night finished off with a little fun League trivia game. The members who came out had a great time answering the questions and seeing who would be the ultimate winner(s).
