Week of Service

The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) held its fourth annual Week of Service from November 6-10. The League’s more than 1400 members were encouraged to participate in service activities for current and former community partners.

Activities were held at the JLC building or onsite at other organizations. There were also options for members to serve in the comfort of their own homes. Keep reading to see just some of our amazing volunteers in action.

Members helped color pages upon pages of bookmarks for our current partner, Promising Pages.

They also made encouraging notes for students and teachers via former partner, Classroom Central.

I so enjoyed making little notes to brighten the days of students and teachers in our community. Once my creativity started flowing, the notes just kept coming! I hope that they help our teachers know in a small way how much the JLC appreciates what they do for our children, and I hope that the notes for students inspire our young learners! -Rosalind Kopp

I LOVED making inspiring and uplifting notes for the teachers and students. I think it is so important to let them know their hard work is seen and appreciated! -Megan Teets

I love making crafts so decorating these notes was fun! It’s nice to think of students getting a lift from seeing something encouraging meant just for them. -Kimberly Vuxta

As a former teacher, I know how important little things like these notes are! Excellent project, yay team! -Julie Wentz

Members also made flashcards of words for students served by the Charlotte Community Services Association.

I realized how it’s easy to take for granted the knowledge of certain words. It felt good to contribute to something that will help children gain this knowledge themselves. – Laura Blake

JLC members Malika Sanders, Caitlin Moczula, Veronica Zamory, Margaret Achey and Adrienne-Elaine Lamptey volunteered at former partner WingHaven, clearing out the stream and children’s garden.

JLC members Elle Jacques, Bridget Sivewright, Lisa Hollis-Mcilwaine and Adrienne-Elaine Lamptey decluttered and organized the closets at Thompson Child and Family Focus. Adrienne said it gave her inspiration to clean out her own closet!

JLC members Erica Lake, Morgan Squatriglia and Adrienne-Elaine Lamptey volunteered at Charlotte Mecklenburg Library’s Epic Fest. They were ushers for the School House Rock Live Musical. Adrienne said it was a treat to see three different generations at the show.

The Kids in the Kitchen committee made gingerbread house kits for students at Renaissance West.

JLC members helped our current partner, Families Forward, by packing up baskets of supplies.

JLC members spent time at Second Harvest sorting and packing up food.
