Do you know a future JLC member? Sponsorship meetings are scheduled!
The Membership Development Committee is hosting our October Sponsorship meetings on Oct 10 and Oct 28 at 7p.m. at the Junior League of Charlotte Building. If you are interested in joining the Junior League of Charlotte or know someone who would want to share her time and talents with the JLC, mark those dates on your calendar!
Many people think that you have to know someone in the JLC in order to be “sponsored” because this is the way it used to be. These days, women in the JLC volunteer to sponsor women who may not know any current members.
One of these volunteers is Arina Kirk, the JLC’s Human Resource Council Manager. She volunteers her time as a sponsor because of her own positive experience in joining the JLC.
“When I moved to Charlotte, I didn’t know anyone in the League. Friends in other cities told me that joining would be a great way to get involved in the community and meet like-minded people, so I contacted the JLC office, and asked if I could join without a sponsor. Someone in the sponsorship pool took me on, sight unseen, and I remain forever grateful to her for opening the door to such a wonderful organization. Through the League, I’ve met many amazing women, developed as a leader and a person, and have become involved with a group that’s committed to improving our city,” she explained. “This is why I am so committed to sponsoring members to join the Junior League. There’s a niche for everyone in this organization, whether it be in the community or internal. This organization doesn’t just have an impact on the community – it’s a group that impacts member lives, as well. Sponsoring someone, whether she is a close friend, a casual acquaintance, or a friend of a friend, could add so much richness to her life, as well as to the League.”
