Placement Spotlight – Alexander Youth Network

The Alexander Youth Network is a part of the Community Impact Council’s Healthy Minds team which focuses on the promotion and support of the mental health needs of children ages 0-17 and their families.  Junior League Charlotte, Inc. volunteers serve as tutors, dinner buddies or special event volunteers at AYN in order to support the organization’s goal of providing children and their families a full array of behavioral healthcare services so that transitions between treatment programs are smoother and valuable relationships have a chance to grow.

On October 19th, 2014, the AYN Committee hosted a fall festival for the residents.  Activities included face painting, pumpkin decorating, a pumpkin toss, sack races, and tug-of-war.  An apple dipping bar was a big hit with lots of tasty treats.

On Sunday, March 8, 2015, the Alexander Youth Network committee of the JLC hosted a dance for the 36 residents at the Thermal Road campus.  The gymnasium was decorated with a Hollywood theme.  The kids had a blast dancing to music played by DJ Lil K while decked out in prom king and queen crowns, sunglasses, beaded necklaces, and glow bracelets.  In addition to dancing, there were craft activities which included painting wooden picture frames.  The event was a huge success!

Field Day events are planned for April 19th and May 3rd.  The committee also helped out with AYN’s Angel Network and Tree Lighting in December and committee member Angela Smith teaches dance classes to the kids at AYN on Monday mornings.

Alexander Youth Network provides quality professional treatment to children ages 5 to 24 with serious emotional and behavioral problems.  To learn more about AYN, please visit www.alexanderyouthnetwork.org.  The Junior League of Charlotte has a 10 year relationship with Alexander Youth Network.
