Throwback Thursday: JLC Members Cooking – Then and Now

By: Lucy Blough

The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) started the Charlotte Cookbook in 1969 thanks to Frances Young and her committee. In one month, eight members tested 250 recipes, and in the first year, the cookbook raised more than $2,500 to support the mission of the JLC.

Although the JLC no longer has a Cookbook Committee, as part of our mission to ensure all children are school ready, we partner with Project 658 to help prepare meals for local families of after-school care students.  Project 658 helps identify at-risk families within Charlotte’s international and refugee communities to provide them with services that can help move these families toward stability.  To read more about our community partnership with Project 658, you can read the article from the Spring 2018 CRIER at https://issuu.com/jlcharlotteinc/docs/2018.06.22_crier_spring_publication.
