Spotlight on a JLC member

Alston Robertson has been an active member of the Junior League for ten years!  She began with the Junior League of Washington, in Washington, D.C. in 2003, and transferred to the JLC in 2006.  I sat down with Alston and asked her a few questions.  I cannot wait to try out some of her fabulous suggestions!!

What is your favorite spot to hang out with the girls?  Nolen Kitchen for half-priced wine on Tuesdays and AZN in Piedmont Town Center for awesome sushi and a fabulous outside bar and patio in the summer!

What kind of toppings do you like on your pizza?  Honestly, I’m a plain cheese girl.  Nothing beats Portofino’s.  Nothing.  Their pizza is great.  Their pasta is great.  All around one of the best restaurants in Charlotte.

Where do you like to volunteer your time?  My placement is the Ronald McDonald House and I truly love it.  It is a great placement and does wonderful things for the community.  Outside the League, I am very involved in fundraising for the MS Society.  I’m walking in the 50 mile Challenge Walk in March!

Where is your favorite weekend road trip outside Charlotte?  My hometown is Mount Airy, NC, and I love visiting family there and enjoying the cute little town and the mountain setting.  There are new rental cabins that you have to check out at White Sulphur Springs in Mount Airy.  Awesome weekend retreat with the family or with a group of girlfriends!

Where is your favorite day trip outside Charlotte?  I love hiking Crowder’s Mountain.  Also outlet shopping in Gaffney is always fun – but only if you need something!  I just had my closets professionally organized so I am not shopping for a long time… I am now using what I have that I didn’t even know I had because it was BURIED! They did amazing work and turned under-utilized space into VERY usable space.  I am so thrilled!
