Slate 101 – Who, What, When, Where and Why Slate?

Today is the last day to register for the JLC Holiday Social and Slate Party!  What is “slate,” you ask?  Nominating Chair TaLeayah Johnson explains:

TaLeayah HeadshotI hope you have heard about the exciting news of the upcoming JLC Holiday and Slate Party? I am sure you’ve read about it in The Happenings, on Facebook and Twitter. And of course, your JLC friends invited you to join them at Bubble on Wednesday December 2nd to see the new Leadership Slate.

But WAIT? What does Slate MEAN?

This is the peeeeerfect JLC blog spot to get your JLC Slate 101 information!

To understand what is the JLC Slate and to put some context around what is the Slate Party, then it is important to understand the JLC STRAW BALLOT.

Let’s begin! A Straw Ballot is an opinion poll. It helps the Nominating Committee propose candidates to be future leaders of the Junior League of Charlotte. It allows our active members to voice whom they would like to see lead the JLC. This is the first step in selecting JLC leadership.
The Straw Ballot helps members be the voice of the League. It is this voice that guides the Nominating Committee who in turn prepares a proposed slate of JLC leaders.

This selection process is used to slate the Management Team, the Board of Directors, and the Nominating Committee. It is this slated group of candidates who are proposed to the membership to be the next leaders of the JLC.

The Nominating Committee is responsible for facilitating the process of proposing the leadership for the coming year.
We have the HUGE task of asking our members to serve in leadership roles and, upon their acceptances, we build the slate to presented to the body for vote. This is one of our most exciting times of the year to share all of our efforts.

Please join us on Wednesday, December 2 at Bubble Lounge at the Epicenter – for some fun, laughter, and fellowship as Nominating presents the newly slated leadership revealing the proposed slate for the 2016-2017:

President-Elect
Board of Directors
Management Team
Nominating committee
