Advocacy: Ways to Get Involved

By Victoria Lee and Eleanor Shell

Are you interested in learning more about opportunities to get involved in local advocacy?  The Junior League is a great place to start!  The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC)  not only provides members with the opportunities to advocate, but we provide training for members interested in advocacy. Each spring, the JLC hosts a Public Officials Breakfast for local elected officials.  In addition to local opportunities, we partner with Leagues from around the state to provide training on a state level.  The Association of Junior Leagues International (AJLI) has hosted national advocacy days and trainings in Washington DC.

The JLC’s  Public Policy and Advocacy (PPA) committee identifies and researches policy issues important to the JLC, advocating on its behalf. It builds coalitions with like-minded organizations and promotes awareness and dialogue among JLC membership and the community.

These are just a few of the past JLC advocacy initiatives:

We all have the opportunity to advocate on issues that impact our local communities and us.  There are several ways we can engage in the democratic process, but the most important is that as Change Agents, we stay engaged and promote issues that impact our local communities and us.
