Sustainer Showcase

Just in time for the holiday shopping season, the Junior League of Charlotte Sustainers came up with a clever and fun way to put the spotlight on their group with the first-ever Sustainer Showcase.
Held at the JLC building, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 12, it was a holiday market that included creations handcrafted by Sustainers and other items for sale.
Sustainer President, Dianne Cates, is the one that came up with the idea.
“The idea came to me over the summer.  My parents were in retail and I was trying to come up with ways to revitalize our group and decided this would be a good way to do it,” says Cates.
The response was great from the Sustainer group and in all there were 20 vendors who participated in the Showcase. They sold everything from oil paintings, pies and kids clothing to home décor and Christmas decorations.
Ginger Bowman
JLC member Ginger Bowman was one of the Sustainers who participated in the event. She has been a JLC member since 1989 and makes scarves and ‘shrawls’ (combination of a shrug and shawl).
She also sells Charles Albert jewelry, a designer from Florida.
“This is a hobby for me but I really enjoy,” says Bowman. “When I heard about the Sustainer Showcase I knew it would be a perfect fit to expose members to my line.”

Fifteen percent of the proceeds from the showcase went to the Sustainer group with a portion being given to A Child’s Place.
A couple of hundred people made their way through the event, proving that it will definitely be something that will become an annual event on the JLC calendar.
