Spotlight on New Placements: Circle de Luz

Circle de Luz, or “Circle of Light,” was founded by author and UNCC professor Rosie Molinary to introduce middle and high school-aged Latinas in Charlotte to people, places, ideas and activities they would not otherwise be able to access.  The organizers have an ultimate goal of making it possible for the girls to attend college or trade school after graduation.

The Junior League of Charlotte, Inc. (JLC) and Circle de Luz have partnered to offer the girls access to placements like Kids in the Kitchen, Big Shots Saturdays and the Speakers’ Bureau.  JLC volunteers will becomes the “mijas,” or “girlfriends,” of the girls they are mentoring and will be paired based on their career goals.  The volunteers and girls will train for 10 weeks to participate in a final 5K run.
