Meet a New League Member: Tangie Able

Why did you decide to become a member of the League?
I decided to join the League so that my efforts to help the community would be multiplied. There is nothing more powerful than a group of determined and focused women who share a common goal. To be a part of a group whose mission aligns with my values and passions is very important to me. I love what the League stands for, and I am proud to be a part of the work that the League carries out.

What is your favorite league experience so far?
So far, I have enjoyed meeting all the ladies of the group! Everyone shares a passion for helping others. The women are warm, intelligent, driven and skilled – these are my kind of ladies!

What is your favorite restaurant?
This is a hard question to answer! Charlotte has so many wonderful restaurants. I am a huge fan of Zebra – the food is divine and the service is impeccable. Whether it’s just me and my husband having an intimate dinner, or we’re meeting friends, Zebra is a very nice spot. I also like that they use locally sourced ingredients in some of their dishes. I have to say that Vivace comes in at a close second – they have great food, and that is THE place to see and be seen.

If you had $100 to donate – what charity or charities would you donate to?
There are so many wonderful groups out there that do so much good in the community. First, I would donate $50 to the Christopher & Dana Reeve foundation to help spinal cord injury patients. I became aware of this foundation because of my mother. She suffered a spinal cord injury late in life that left her partially paralyzed. I believe that the Christopher & Dana Reeve foundation has brought lots of awareness to this injury, and they are on the forefront of research to help find a cure.
I would donate the other $50 to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. The JDRF has made great strides in the research of Type 1 Diabetes and they are determined to extinguish this disease. Type 1 diabetes affects so many young people who have not yet begun to fully enjoy their lives. I would love to help this organization reach its goal of erasing Type 1 diabetes.

Where is your favorite place to shop?
I love, love, love Belk. First, it’s a store that’s rooted in the South. I am a Southern girl – born and raised, so I love to support a store that started here.
