JLC History

70 years ago in JLC history…

During the 1942-1943 JLC Year, the League released the Old North State Cookbook, the League’s first of its kind. The League’s cookbook originally sold for $2.06 and raised $2,881.50. It was delivered to customers by bicycle to save on the cost of gas.

Since the original Old North State Cookbook, the JLC has continued the tradition of raising funds through the release of cookbooks stacked with local favorites. Over the past 70 years, the JLC has participated in or independently released eight additional cookbooks, some of them capturing national attention! In fact, the Charlotte cookbook has sold more than 100,000 copies!

Some highlights include:

  • Old North Sate Cookbook
  • North State Cookbook 2nd edition
  • Cooking Mother’s Goose
  • Charlotte Cookbook – Over 100,000 copies sold!
  • Charlotte Cooks Again – Over 40,000 copies sold and featured in Town and Country magazine.
  • Dining by Fireflies

Even more fun, the Charlotte Cookbook and Charlotte Cooks Again can be spotted at the WearHouse, and many of the other titles are available online so check it out!
